The last link is just on a parabolic reflector to make the signal directional.

Yes, but unless you want to buy a few connectors (Radio Shack) to convert your F connector to an M or BNC, you will have to destroy your old antenna.

The top part of the antenna. is just a plastic tube that holds a bare center wire from the connector. Take the top off and cut this wire back a bit and solder it to the center wire of a 3 or 4 foot coax cable (use RG56 or 58 cable wire) . Solder the shielding to the outside part of the antenna. connector. Patch this up with some electrical tape.

On the other end of the coax cable, strip back the shielding about 10 inches and cut it off, leaving an exposed center wire 10 inches in length. Peel off any foil that is on this center connector, but you can leave the white plastic shielding on.

This is your new antenna. , Staple it up high on the wall.and bend the center wire any way that gives the best result.

About as good as any monopole antenna that is available out there, and will give you about 25% better coverage, but there are some rather good dipoles and directionals available for under $50 that can give you up to 40% better coverage.

For REAL coverage and performance, you cannot beat a wireless range extender, like the Linksys WRE series (~$100.) They can quadruple the coverage area in a typical house.

There is an extended antenna to purchase, but making yourself will likely decrease reception, unless you have an advanced knowledge of antenna theory.

You may be etter served to understand what will limit the signal you have. Pipes, electrical conduit, hot water tank, furnace, large appliances like the refrigerator, will dimish the signal. Try to move the access point to a better location...a few feet may make the difference.

I keep mine in the basement and can get a signal in the top floor bedrooms by moving the access point 5 feet up and putting it in the drop ceiling; avoiding pipes and water tank...else the signal is bad.

Move the antennas horizontal and vertical and see how reception improves. I have one horizontal and one vertical for best reception.
CHeck if other things inhibit your signal. Usually the signal frequency is the same as household phones. CHange channels to seee if the signal is better. Neighbors phones will interfere too.

Try using a pringles can attached to your wifi antennae. to do that, simply make a hole in the bottom of the can.
