It's not clear whether you're asking about the Critical Reading part (with the passages and then the questions after) or the Writing part (with the essay you write, and the grammar and style questions).

If you are concerned about Critical Reading, and you want to prepare in the next few weeks, I would do a lot of practice sections. Start to think like the people who write the questions--read the section, and see if you can write your own questions about the passage, highlighting the kinds of things the testmakers tend to emphasize. Or, read the questions the testmakers have written, and then try writing your own right and wrong answer choices. Really work at writing answer choices that sound plausible but are somehow wrong. Doing this trains you to recognize the nuances and tricks testmakers use to make wrong answers sound right so that you can see right through them!

This is a good starting place for advice on strategies and practice questions:

You should also be able to check out a book like "10 Real SATs" from your local library or school library or career center, where you can see a whole bunch of practice tests.

If you are concerned about the grammar questions, review major grammar rules. Most SAT preparation books have great sections on grammar--again, you should be able to check these out from your local library, from your school, or, if you're feeling wealthy, buy one from a local bookstore.

This website also has great, simple explanations, practice quizzes, and examples for most of the topics you will encounter in the Writing section:

No matter what studying you do ahead of time, just taking the test for a second time will likely improve your score, as you become more familiar with the format and content.

Good luck on the 27th!

If your talking about critical reading, then do lots of practice ( I did form the collegeboard book) adn remember that the questions aren't asking you for your opinion, but for the opinion on the passage- be very careful to only answer the questions based on info given in the passage. Study vocabulary alot, like 5 words a day, and you should be golden.

If you're talkign about the writing, first of all don't sweat it too much because most colleges barely care about it, but I would use the Kaplan book and read over grammar rule- because you may think you know all of them but there are some you probably never knew existed, and remember that usually abot 1 out of five answers is choice E- no mistake. Don't rely on that, completely, though. It's just that if you've done the whole thing and there a re no e's, then you definitely have some wrong, and don't go fiding mistakes that aren't htere.

Good luck!

When I was in high school my teacher used to hand out practice tests. Practice vocabulary and be able to understand analogies. When it comes to writing the essay, I know this sounds stupid but a lot of people mess up here, make sure you answer exactly what they are asking. Remember with the SAT you are only graded on what you answer. If you have no idea and can't eliminate any of the answers, you are better off to leave it blank and it won't count against you. This is the web site for the official prep for the SAT. Good Luck!

There are many different practice books on the market to assist in preparation for the SAT. I recommend doing as many practice timed tests as possible. You might be able to find some cheap books to study with on eBay.com or half.com. Get plenty of practice before the test to help you be better prepared. Good Luck!
