You may be referring to American Co-Masonry, which is often referred to on here by a user NeoArt as a more esoteric form of Freemasonry.

Esoteric means that what is known is only shared with a select group, or the initiates of the organization. Since I am a member of regular Freemasonry (the Freemasonry of Paul Revere, Ben Franklin, and even Gerald Ford), I cannot speak to what mysteries they have that allow them to be considered more "esoteric" than regular Freemasons, but I would definitely begin your search with researching American Co-Masonry, a group of Masons originating from the Grand Lodge of France, as opposed to the Grand Lodge of England, where regular American Freemasonry is chartered from. Another difference is that Co-Masons admit women and refer to them as "brothers".

The only Co-Mason I am aware of is someone on yahoo answers called NeoArt. He is very helpful and informative on all questions about Co-Masonry, or "esoteric" Freemasonry as he calls it. Your best bet would be to contact him or look up other answers that he has posted on here.

Do you mean 'historic' or 'esoteric?' It's hard to answer a question with that kind of spelling.

Historic Masons would be people who were Masons and also important in history - for example Benjamin Franklin (who based some of the Great Seal on Masonic symbols) and George Washington (who laid the cornerstone of the Capitol using a Masonic ritual).

Esoteric Masons are - well, all of them, in a sense. 'Esoteric' means those things which are only known to a select group, and only revealed to them in a particular way and/or under certain circumstances. The antonym is 'exoteric' which means open and known to everyone. Every stage of promotion within the Masons (and many other groups) involves a secret ritual in which esoteric knowledge is given to members who have done the work (and usually paid a fee) to earn access to it.

Try researching Hermes Trisgomestes. There are answers to be found there about human knowledge and the evolution of the ruling class.
