CFCs Chloro flouro carbons are used to get the low temperatures.
it based on adiabatic process. when a GAS is compressed to high pressure and allowed to expand it absobs the heat from the surroundings and cools the surroundings and the gas gets the energy required for expansion.by repeating the process cyclically using motors very low temperatures are produced. that's how air conditioners and refrigerators work.
however CFCs are main reason for the ozone depletion. it's use is being discouraged.
