First of all you are not a bad father!!Check his head for any bruising, keep an eye on him for the next 12 hours.Make sure he is eating normally and if he vomits I would take him in.Other signs would be his pupils dilating. If he falls asleep try to wake him every hour just to make sure he is ok.This is what the docs told me when my son fell. They will not say neglect,as long as you didnt leave him on the couch and go to the store to get a coffee!!LOL!!I had my son in a bouncy(vibrating) chair at 6 weeks old,had the chair on a coffee table and it bloody well vibrated right off!!! I called 911 right away we spent 2 hours at the hospital and he was fine.He fell onto hardwood floor and the chair on top of him!!I was terrified cuz he was on heprin(blood thinners) from heart surgery he had when he was 2 days old!!If it makes you feel better take him in,only you can make that desicion.Did he cry?It is a good sign if he did. Also check for any lumps and bumps but as I found out babies are pretty tough!!Good Luck !!You are doing great!! Oh and to "luci in disguise" Obviously the dad is a little shaken so mind your own,if you cant say anything nice dont say anything at all!!

There are ways to check for a concussion. Your son will hurt his head a lot in the course of getting on his feet and getting going, so learn the signs and check for them.

You may know this things and you just need to trust them, then.

1) Check the pupils. Is each dilated the same or is one bigger than the other? Same size is good, different is a sign of a concussion.

2) Is the child sleepy? Sometimes, they were sleepy when they fell, but after a fall, you must not let them sleep and you must see if they have an overwhelming desire to sleep. If they do, that's a possible sign of a concussion.

3) Vomiting after fall? Possible sign of concussion.

4) In older children, check for orientation. Things they're likely to know - what's your name? Who am I? Who is Santa Claus? Who was the first president?

Here's a link to a page with a great write-up on the matter. Information is power; kids make us worry so much, you want to save your worry for real problems.

At 2 1/2 months, I would probably take him in...just for good measure. That's fairly young to determine if he is okay just by how he acts.

As far as the CPS stuff goes, babies roll of the couch or are accidently dropped or fall off of things all of the time. It is not neglect or abuse by you by any means. No worries there!

although i understand that you are concerned you could get yourself in trouble, not taking the baby to the doctor for his or her well being was really irrisponisble. Take the baby to the ER or the doctor. Soon. Sooner is better than later. If i were you i would not wait for other replies, this is a child life in your hands not just your parenting rights. If your that scared they will give you crap then make up a story or someting. Serisuly if your going to be a father, you have to be willing to take some crap rather than put your baby in danger. Although at least you did something to find out what to do. (i am not trying to ignorant or anything, but sometimes people need to hear the truth)

Hey there's nothing to worry if ur baby is doing fine. Am sure every baby wud've had such petty falls. So relax. Again watch for any symptoms for :
1. vomitting
2. able to balance (fairly as he's really small)
3. fever
4. sudden change in behaviour.... as any one of the above may be indicating some problem.
If he's doing fine and acting normal plz don't worry. U cud call ur doc and just keep them informed.
Take care so that this doesn't repeat thatz all.

I really don't think that anyone will 'holler neglect' or anything. It was an accident and these things happen. If he's not acting like anything is wrong then I would try and stop worrying. If you can't then take him to the ER and not worry because I really don't think that anything will come of it. Try to calm down and good luck.

My two year old fell off the shopping cart last month, she graved it but still she had a huge goose egg and I cried more than she did, I took her to her Dr right away and he told me she was fine, he said to check if she had blood in her ears if her pupils were dilated or different size, if she vomit or if she was acting different but with a newborn is hard to tell because all they do is sleep. If he fell on a carpet floor he is probably fine but you will definitely feel better if you take him in, they are so fragile that better be safe then sorry. The Doctors get suspicious when the child is unconscious, with bruises, dehydrated those are red flags for them, but accidents like yours happen a lot and they know how to tell the difference, don't be afraid and take you baby in , you will feel a lot better I PROMISE!

Well at two months old her shouldn't have been on the couch alone anyway. But not worried about that right now.Forget CPS just get him checked out.At that age falling on his head could cause problems that won't show up right away. What sate are you from every state has different rules.

This kind of thing happens to A LOT of parents! Don't be afraid to have him checked out. It is best for the child to have them examined, plus they might wonder why it took you so long to have him checked out. Everything is probably OK, but do it for the child and for your own sanity!

I would put your CPS worries aside and think of the health of your child. Take him in right away.
