I recently attended a conference where a concentration camp survivor spoke. She said that all the conditions that were present in Germany before and after Hitler took over are present in American now. She said that all the good people in Germany kept thinking and saying that "someone will stop him" and "there are too many good people in our country for this to happen" and "it could never happen here."

It could happen here, and it is incumbent on us as good citizens to be vigilant in protecting the rights granted to us by the Founding Fathers and by the Constitution. Saying "Oh, I don't care because I don't do anything wrong" is short-sighted because one day you might do something wrong or you might be mistaken for someone else or someone you love might be swept up in some situation. We have to protect ALL our rights for ALL our people, not just for ourselves alone and not just the rights we happen to like. That's how the brilliant men who founded our country intended it.

Yes. The current administration consistently does the wrong thing at almost every opportunity. Signing statements, secret prisons, and a failed Iraqi policy do nothing to increase my confidence in the benign intentions of this administration.

Yes, things have already gotten pretty bad that way. I hope we will have a Democrat in office next -- that should help. (I hope)
