I've never really understood why when you type in anything on google and it shows the size of any page you could open and yet when it says something like for example yahoo.com is 74k and my connection speed is 1.5 mbps it still can take as long as 10 seconds to open. Anyone know why this is and how to Maximize use of connection speed?

Internet speed is based on how many hops it takes from your computer to the computer hosting the webpage you are looking for. If you have numerous hops, then your speed is slow.

The only thing to maximize speed is to find a time that there is not alot of others "surfing". Within those hops, are others like you who are surfing, chatting and whatever else they can do on the Internet. While you may have 1.5Mbps, in reality it may be a tad slower due to traffic.

Hope this helps

The reason that it's faster at night is there is less server loads, both on your ISP and yahoo's servers. Also, just because the advertised speed is 1.5mbps doesn't mean your getting it. You can go to http://www.speedtest.net/ to see what speeds you're actually getting. For example, my ISP advertises 6mbps down and 512kbps up, but I actually get almost 13mbps download but only about 359kbps upload (according to speedtest.net.) It mostly just depends on your ISP's connections. I reccomend comcast (if you're in the US) as your ISP because it's simply the fastest and the most affordable solution there is. Although there are lots of softwares out there that are supposed to "optomize" your internet speed, most barely do anything if anything at all. They just waste your RAM in my opinion.

Why don't you try checking at different timings i.e if you normally connect at morning try connecting at lunch or night.

Even better complain to your Internet Service Provider that they are not giving the VALUE FOR MONEY!

There are even softwares referred to as Internet Acceleraters which come with a price. You can try this one
