To raise money for New Orleans.

Hurricane Katrina not only damaged many homes and took many lives of New Orleans citizens, but it also took their posessions. An instrument for a musician is his or her way of making a living, as well as his or her way of expressing their voice inside. The Edge realized how important their instruments were, and founded a charity called Music Rising to help restore instruments to those New Orleans musicians who lost theirs. New Orleans has a bustling music scene that has influenced so many sounds in rock, and The Edge's charity is such a thoughtful one.
U2 and Greenday released "The Saints Are Coming" as a charity single with all benefits to go to the Music Rising charity. they debuted the song at the new orleans' superdome on the opening of monday night football with a rockin performance together =)
hope that helped!
