A few decades ago the term gay meant happy. Then the meaning changed to mean sort of odd (sort of like the term queer). Eventually that "odd" meaning came to be attached to homosexuals (much like the way the term queer did too).

Today you're more likely to find homosexual people reappropriating the word much the same way black people took back the word n**** to mean something positive or inclusive.

Cheers,

It's a propagandistic distortion of the English language. Any group COULD HAVE done this BEFORE the homosexuals did it. But no group, prior to the homosexuals, were willing to inflict corruption upon the language itself. When you think about it in those moral terms, you can see what ruthlessly nasty people homosexuals must really be.

The word gay was used to mean happy way back in the day. Due to stereotypes about gay men being happy, chipper, and with lisps and that kind of thing, I suppose they just decided to call them happy. So to put it simply, it's probably due to the stereotype of the happy gay attitude.

I really have no idea when that term came about. I think it's about time for a new one. I also think straight needs to be replaced as well. Both terms just sound odd.

1. Gay = = happy.
2. In Britain, for some reason, Gay = = sexually deviant (prostitutes and the like).
3. queer = sexually deviant = gay.

For some reason, it stuck with us, but no one else. ::shrug::
