It could be that you either fractured it or you sprained it. That happened to me not too long ago with my right little toe. I didn't hit it against anything, but instead, I stubbed it or bent it outward. It was painful and it hurt for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, because of the size of the bone and joint being small, there isn't much a doctor can do but perhaps at best, give you a pain killer and antiflamatory medicine. I would just take a couple of Tylenols or Advils and see if that helps ease the pain any. To take the swelling down, try keeping some ice on it for a little while. When I bent my little toe back, it hurt bad, but after about two weeks, the pain was gone. I didn't do anything like taking pain killers or over the counter meds - just dealt with it. After a couple of days, though, the pain subsided.

You can try icing off and on. Ibuprofen is helpful with inflamation and nerve pain.

If the pain and inflammation don't go away within a day, see a doctor in case it is fractured.

Keep an eye on the redness. A stubbed toe can get infected, either because of the injury to the toenail or because of the injury to the bone. If the redness starts to move up your foot/leg at all, go to the doctor. If you see it move rapidly or in streaks, go straight to emergency.

How long it will take to heal is unpredictable. Depends on how bad you injured it and your own pain tolerance. If you have to work, try to find some slightly oversized shoes and bandage the toe with something extra cushiony. I have done this with medical pads and bandaids from my first aid kit.

Hey There,

Don't panic, you have only stubbed your toe. If you have a look, you may see that there is all this toe nail sorta clumped up inside. if you get rid of it and it will hurt, the pain will go away.

I stubbed my toe once and it hurt for weeks on end. When I took a really good look at it and I saw all this white stuff under my toenail, I removed it. The pain went immediately

You might have jammed the nail into the skin.

I'd put ice on it and cut the sharp nail out.
I've actually performed surgery a real podatrist would on myself, because there's no point in paying $150 for that, like I've done twice.

Grit your teeth and take nail scissors and cut it out.
It will hurt, but the swelling should go down.

can you move your toe? If you can, you probably just have a sprain. If not, the toe may be fractured. Put some ice on it and elevate your entire leg (the foot needs to be higher than your knee).

i would say you just stubbed it. wait one more day and if it still hurts (to where you can't walk) then go see a doctor. you could've jammed it.
