I'm not sure if Oliver Stone was pissed but he wrote what a lot of people felt about the times...Vietnam was a huge loss of life for no reason and the loss of JFK who gave a generation hope was almost as bad.

Oliver Stone wasn't pissed because he had to go to Vietnam. He even specified to be placed in combat duty for 17 months in 1967-1968. He was wounded twice and served in the 25th Infantry Division and the 1st Cavalry Division and he brought home the Bronze Star with "V" device for valor for "extraordinary acts of courage under fire", and the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster for his tours of duty.

"Platoon" and "Born on the Fourth of July" is part of a trilogy according to Stone. The third of which is "Heaven and Earth". All three films deal with different aspects of the Vietnam war all having the common denominator "the war was a great loss to life for no reason".

The film JFK mixes truth with hypothesis about several high-level government officials conspiring to kill John F. Kennedy. The war in Vietnam was going on and people in his cabinet wants to get involved for financial gains (war is still the biggest money-maker) but the President would not hear of it. The film suggests that the assassination of the President was actually a "coup de etat" to remove him from office and let the Vice President (Lyndon Banes Johnson) who was partial to getting involved in the war, to take office and allow America to send troops to Vietnam.

Hope this answers your question. :-)
