Call the bank. Just about every bank has an automated system that allows you to punch in the acct number and the amount and it can tell you if the check will clear.

Call the bank the check is drawn off of and ask to verify the funds. If they won't (some won't do that anymore), ask to verify the routing number to ensure it's to that bank. Most fraudulent checks have incorrect routing numbers. The only other thing is to actually take it to the bank to verify funds. Alot of banks are getting nervous about doing that over the phone now. Yes. You can call the bank the check is drawn off of. For example, if the bank is Bank of America, simply call the 800# and give them the routing # and checking account # located at the bottom of the check. They will be able to verfiy the funds for you.

You can do a google search for any bank's telephone number. FYI.
