I have not gone to my first prenatal appointment yet and am having horrible gas pains. What are some things that your docs said you could take for gas? Thanks.

Chewable simethicone tablets are the best! You can keep them with you at all times, you don't need water to take them and best of all it works!! They're over the counter and are not expensive.

If you are taking prenatal vitamins they could be the cause. I had to switch to another brand of vitamins to get rid of my pains.

Best of luck to you, take care!!

I'm in my third pregnancy, and I experienced a lot of gas for the first trimester for all three. I did not eat the kinds of foods that can cause gas because I didn't each much at all (terrible morning sickness). So I know that it is more than just brocolli and beans that can cause the gas.

And I don't think it is the vitamins. I threw up the vitamin and didn't take it much during the first trimester in my first two pregnancies (like I said, I had TERRIBLE morning sickness) and still had the gas.

I'm sorry I don't know what can help. Talk to a nurse at the clinic you plan on going to and they can tell you which over the counter medications are okay.

The one thing I can offer is some hope. This symptom of pregnancy may lessen or go away by the time you reach your second trimester. I'm now 13 weeks along and gas-free.

First of all, try and identify what could be causing the gas. Sometimes if you do the... cat stretch..(best way to describe) on knees and hands bottom in air.. that can help. For me... I just have to wait it out and curse the chili.
The foods most likely to cause gas are beans, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and asparagus. All contain the sugar raffinose, which causes gas for a lot of people. Other people have trouble with onions, pears, artichokes, and sodas and fruit drinks sweetened with fructose. Sodas and fruit drinks should be avoided anyway, as they are empty calories and the carbonation in sodas can contribute to bloating.

Certain starches — such as pasta and potatoes, but not rice — can cause gas for some people. And certain fiber-rich foods — such as oat bran, beans, and many kinds of fruit — cause gas because they're normally broken down in the large intestine.

Broccoli and beans, even though they are good for you, it causes gas. If you are going to eat gassy foods, eat it in private.
Also drink lots of water on a daily basis to keep yourself hydrated and relieve pain. Water is one of the natural pain relievers.
Also, be sure to take your prenatal vitamins even if you haven't gone to the doctors yet. You can get prenatal vitamins at any store.

I agree with Mrs.Z on the vitamins. I think I tried 3 different ones. Also, is it gas, or just really bad heartburn?? My whole pregnancy I had the worst heartburn, and it even made me feel bloated. Nothing over the counter worked. He finally gave me a prescription for something. Don't take anything new without talking with your doctor. If it is heartburn, they say your baby will have hair. Sure thing , my girl had thick black hair. So it was all worth it. Good Luck to you and your baby.
