OK...for a long time it has been something of an urban myth....now a good majority of the people are acknowledging its existence, but when are we going to start to feel individually accountable for the creation and encouragement of global warming?

OR what do you do or can others do to take care of their own corner of the world and decrease this impending and likely debilitating problem?

mmmk..
Global warming isn't all man made, it IS a natural cycle, but we are expediting the process.....don't tell me I don't know science!! and don't tell me driving your Hummer to the corner store for cat food or milk isn't a bad idea!!!

Well sure, giant meteors hit the earth before...massive floods encompassed the earth before, parts of the world have experienced epidemics and droughts in our life time.....just because it's happened before, does that mean that we shouldn't do our best to stop it from happening again????

There is no doubt that it exists and no doubt about the cause--at least among reputable scientists all over the world. People who are still buying the 'it doesn't exist' theory either haven't read enough, are listening to Rush Limbaugh exclusively or haven't seen An Inconvenient Truth. The facts that a huge piece of a glacier broke off in Canada just last week, polar bears are drowning because there's not enough ice in their habitat, the East Coast has been warmer in the month of December than the West Coast, cherry blossoms are blooming two months early, no snow in Maine, and scientists are predicting 2007 will be the hottest year on record (and 10 of the hottest years on record happened in the last 11 years) should be enough evidence for even the biggest skeptics. Unless, that is, they have closed minds and don't want to be confused with the facts.

Here are a few simple things everyone can do no matter what they believe. You will even save money! What's the harm?

Compact fluorescent light bulbs: These energy-efficient bulbs cost less than $4 and are produced by major corporations like GE. If every household in America switched five regular light bulbs for five fluorescent bulbs, it would be the equivalent of taking 1 million cars off the highways for a full year.

Outdoor solar lighting: These yard or patio lights cost less than $20, and they don't burn any electricity or produce any CO2.

Programmable thermostats: Though these thermostats cost from $50 to $100, they can actually cut your heating and cooling costs. Set the setting so it's a little bit cooler in the winter and warmer in the summer when you're not in the house. A difference of 2 degrees can reduce a home's CO2 emissions by up to 9 percent over the course of a year.

Air filters: Changing the air filters in your heating and cooling systems regularly can knock 2 percent off of your CO2 output each year.

Electric hot water heater blanket: Hot water heaters use a lot of energy and generate a lot of CO2. A blanket costs less than $18 and can cut your home's CO2 emissions by almost 4 1/2 percent.

Appliances: When you're shopping for major home appliances, look for the Energy Star label.

There is no doubt there is global warming. There is only disagreement on why. Certainly, there have always been cycles of global warming and cooling; what all the talk about global warming is about is the realization that pollution, etc, is causing global warming to occur faster than it ordinarily would have. The number of weather-related incidences world-wide, the hurricanes, freak snowfalls/heat waves, and weather inconsistant with long-known patterns is all a part of the climate change the earth is going through. Even the heat generated by the number of people and animals on earth is a factor. So cutting down on pollution will definitely slow the whole warming process down a bit.

It is a money issue. Think about the financial shift in the world if everyone believed that global warming was caused by fossil fuels. For the record, when Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in the early 90's, it produced more greenhouse gases than all the automobiles in the world since they were invented. I suspect global warming is due more towards mother nature than fossil fuels. Below is a 2004 article about this. Also, note that the volcanoes produces 15 million tons of sulfur dioxide per year and all other creation produce 200 million tons. Fossil fuels have only been around for a hundred years. How long have the volcanoes been here? I say we revolt against mother nature. There's your fix. Oh, can you think of a single person that has been effected by global warming? I sure can't.

You pose a great question.......

Individual people, groups and nations never all move at the same speed

Britain banned the slavery trade in the 1820s...why did not America follow.....

Why does Europe and North America have better social status for women than other parts of the world

Changing the opinion of a large group starts with individuals and small groups.....as they make their case.....media helps more of the population sees the issue as the truth....till enough people convert to the new reality......then change is made official (law)

Took many years get litter on the national agenda....it is acceptable today....but for most of mankind....litter was not a problems.....the human population lived in small towns or rural areas.....moving to urban area meant it was dumping on our neighbors......more human population meant more litter/trash... it took a lot of information and peer pressure to get people to see it was a societal problem....

it is frustrating,,,but changing human behavior always occurs in waves......unless a crisis develops......Katina help to make more people aware of global warning.....than the science journals

“in case you tell a lie sufficiently vast and keep repeating it, human beings will ultimately come to believe it. The lie might want to be maintained only for such time because the State can shelter the individuals from the political, economic and/or protection force effects of the lie. It accordingly will develop into major for the State to apply all of its powers to repress dissent, for in reality the mortal enemy of the lie, and accordingly through extension, in reality the magnificent enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebells

ok, I'll try to keep this short....
people ought to get over the the caveman politics of trying to feel more self secure by showing off to their friends and neighbors through gross over-consumption. in the modern world greed, imprudence, and excess are a far greater threat to financial, psychological, and environmental security that the opinions of your neighbors. Just ask any Tibetan monk; the basic human needs of safety, health, shelter, nourishment, and love/friendship are in most cases easily and simply satisfied. Worse, I imagine most of western society spends far too much time competing to acquire "stuff" and tragically little time enriching their mind and soul, and those around them.

If it exists the only solution that will not lead to economic ruin and the death of millions of people (from the solution not from the warming) is nuclear power. When environmentalists stop fighting nuclear power plants I will accept this and only this solution because it is an independately good idea.

Here is something we can do. Learn about the natural cycles our earth goes through in regards to temperature, climate, and more. Then we take Bush's secret weather control machine and global gravity inhibitor and combine their technology to stop the natural cycle from continueing down the path it has been on forever.

Everything you purchase has either been produced by petroleum, delivered by petroleum, or both? What have you personally done to stop global warming? What have you personally not bought to slow the process down?

Nothing yet..so many people are preoccupied with the war and other current issues that they really don't care about future issues like global warming. People would have to actually accept the theory first before anything can happen....
And yes--I acknowledge its existence--but the majority of people don't. That's why barely anything is being done.
