I'm not on welfare, but I have known a few people that have been. I can tell you that I wouldn't consider any of them lazy. They may have made some stupid mistakes by having kids too soon, but I know they work. When you work many hours at a low paying job it can be impossible to have any money left for food. I'm sure there are people out there who abuse the system and that's unfair, but why do so many people believe people who collect welfare are lazy and sit on their @ss all day?

There are a lot that do and abuse the system. Unfortunately, that makes the ones that legitimatley need the help and are on it look bad. I do know people who were on it, who worked, had children but just couldn't make ends meet and needed a little extra help until they could get back on their feet. That is what it should be used for and not for people to just abuse it and do nothing to better themselves. I know every situation is different but really, not everyone sits on their butts when on welfare.

There are several reasons ...

one is that SOME of them are basically lazy and are quite prepared to be sponges on society BUT I genuinely believe that kind are in the minority.

another is that some people may be suffering from low self esteme and confidence ( I have been in that situation once myself)... they just don't think that they can get out there and get a job because they think they may be too old , unskilled, stupid etc ... THESE people need a lot of encouragement ... I started out doing volunteer work ... and that gave me new skills and showed ME that I could work well. From there i went to a few not so good jobs but now I am doing well and i have the best permanent job i have ever had....

It is just so easy to end up in a rut ... feeling uselesss and like you have no direction BUT basically people like that just have to bite the bullet and try different things .. do volunteer work instead of sitting on one's bum ...

THOSE that abuse the system should ALSO be made to do something ....

Working really is good for the soul.

Because sadly a lot of people abuse the system. My family was on walfare for a short time when I was a kid. My parents were not lazy they worked hard every day. They used walfare only until they were able to support us again.
However I also know people who abuse the system. It makes me sick. It gives all the hard workers out there a bad name. Not to mention taking away tax money that could go to better uses or families that really need it.

because they think they are just looking for a free ride.. my mom was on welfare my whole life pretty much and she was one of those people minded that she had medical problems and mental issues but i hated her for not being normal but now i understand because i had to get on welfare for a little while....i worked the entire time i was on it and u can't be lazy on welfare they have u do too much S***. monthly weekly daily u have to do a lot for them alone so just with that u can't be lazy!! but i agree there are people that just want the $$ and don't do a damn thing but all the people i have seen work and try their best to do it themselves....i have 2 kids 1yr 20days apart I'm 21 and it is harder then s*** to do for myself even with a full time job....anyway i think i lost my point...but welfare people aren't lazy they just can't provide everything they need by themselves

For obvious reasons. Because some people who are on welfare do. Just like people think that everyone who is fat is a person with no self control. They might just have a thyroid problem!

Because there are many who do.

I get state medical for my daughter, food stamps, and WIC. I work a part time job. Its like 34 hours a week. And my husband passed away. So I have no babysitter. So my hours I am able to work are limited.

well, there is always an exception, but most people on welfare believe the world owes them a living and do nothing to better that situation.

Maybe because all of them say they sit on their asses. There is no excuse to be on welfare for 10 years and people like me have to pay for it.

Because some do abuse it. The majority though do need the help.

Get over it... People talk about people everyday, all day long for no reason at all. It's just something else to talk about it. The sooner you get over things like this, the more peace you'll have in your life.
