Going to the top of Qutub Minar is not allowed for security reasons. In the past there were some suicide attempts and in fact a few persons at different time has died of this. So the Government has decided to stop people going to the top. There is another reason being said is that the pathway to the minar is very narrow, steep and dark and people are unable to claim and faint. It is said for this reasons also people are not allowed to go up. This was told to me by the tourist guides available at the site. -

NO

Because the top 2 floors of QUTAB MINAR was destoyed 2 times by heavy thunder.

The first time it was rectified by Illtumish( son of Qutab-ud-din Aibak)

The second time it was rectified by Muhammed-Bin-Tuglaq.

The construction as compared to the base is weak.

No one is allowed to go to the top or even beyond first floor as it is locked due to some suicidal attempts. It is closed since 1960 or so. I visited first when I was a child wayback in1962, then also only first floor was open.

One can climb up to 1st floor. Climbing above than first floor has been, banned for public, keeping in view, its fragility. The decision has been taken by Archaeological Survey of India.
