Projectile motion refers to the arched path that an object takes when it is thrown (or otherwise propelled). In a typical problem an object is given an 'x' and 'y' component of force. Thus x and y are your two dimensions.

Projectile Motion...Horizontal and vertical velocity are both in one dimension. In a sense they are linear in nature. Directrix is a line which has the same distance from the vertex as the focus is from the vertex (Conic Sections). Projectile Motion is the motion in 2 dimension because it involves both horizontal and vertical velocity.
