Here's something I noticed about scams: whenever they tell you what country they operate out of, check their isp address. Every time I get a letter from a government official in Nigeria claiming to have a bank vault full of money and they don't know what to do with it so they contact a total stranger (me) and promise to give me half if I only give them my bank account number and routing number for them to make the deposit, for some reason they're operating out of Canada, not Nigeria!

Here's how you tell:

Look at any web address or e-mail address for the last two letters. If it's ".com.ca" it's Canada. If it's ".com.ph", it's the Philippines. If it's ".com.uk" it's Britain. If there aren't any letters after the ".com", they operate inside the US.

If there are two letters after the ".com" and you don''t recognize them, google the last part. Type into the search engine ".com.uk" or whatever it is, and see what country pops up on the hits.

Based on your description, it sounds like a scam. You can check bbb.com.
