Downlink bandwidth is always greater than uplink because the network operators expect that a user is receiving more info (txt, streaming audio/video, large photo files) than sending it.

it's not just mobile comms...i have a 5Mbps cable connection. I can DL at 4-5Mbps, but the upload is probably 10% of that speed. I can only assume that the slowdown upon upload is at the server end...
