If you mean as in every punt do you get one point then no, but if it hits the field goal net then you get points not sure how many but you get points. Its only been done one time in the 90's and 00's which was by Doug Flutie

What Doug Flutie did was drop kick a 3 point FIELD GOAL, which is legal and has been done approximately twice in the last 200 years!

What our friend "armstrong" is confused with, is Canadian (CFL) football. There, if the ball is kicked across the goal line during a kick-off, punt or missed field goal and is NOT subsequently run back out by the receiving (defense) team, it automatically counts as a single point. (in Canadian football there is no such thing as a "touch-back" kneeling down simply concedes the single point, likewise a ball kicked through the end -zone, also single point....) It is one of the few things that tends to make CFL football crazy (and often very interesting - those single points can win or lose games....).

But no, "armstrong" there is no such thing in American football. There are no single points EXCEPT the conversion attempt after a touchdown!

(Ah, I stand corrected by the obviously wise Mr. "Cameron B," it was a point after that Flutie drop-kicked, NOT a FG. When I said it had been done twice in 200 years, I was just being facetious. It may have been common before the 1940s, but nobody gives a crap.....)

There are two ways to obtain 1 point in football. The first is on an extra point and for it to count, the ball has to hit the ground before it goes through the uprights. Most kickers kick straight off the ground, but it is also possible to drop the ball off the ground and kick it in, something that Doug Flutie did last year in the Patriot's last game.

The second way is much more rare and I doubt that it has even happened. If there is a safety on a two point conversion, the point value is actually one for the safety, not two. I bet this may have happened in some grade school or high school games, but I have never heard of it happening in a game at the collegiate or pro level. Doubt me? Play any NCAA football video game, go for 2, and run out of the back of your own end zone and I am sure the other team will get one point.

not technically. ya see for a punt to be a punt it cant touch the ground on the kick otherwise it is considered a "dropkick" a dropkick can be done. what mr Don J got wrong was that game against miami that flutie kicked the first successful dropkick since 1941, the kick was an extra point. it can also be done as a field goal but that particular one was an extra point. the other thing that he got wrong was that before 1941 dropkicks were very common. in fact before 1934 they happened more times than not due to the fact that that was before they changed the shape of the ball in 1934 making it harder to predict the bounce and also changed the rule that you had to dropkick behind the line of scrimmage. that also made it much riskier to try.

My only guess would be that you may have been able to do that in the NFL only before they made the rule change allowing two point conversions, if you blocked a point after and ran it back. I was assuming your memory is correct. I don't think I ever heard of that happening, and I always thought a blocked point after was simply no good and couldn't lead to a defensive score. Can't say this couldn't happen, there are some wierd rules that don't come up often--I had four football fans googling 'free kick field goal' when I told them you could kick a field goal after a fair catch kick-off style with the defense ten yards away.

The "rouge" rule where 1 point for kicking the ball out of the end zone or not ran out by a return man only applies in the CFL.

But it would be an interesting deal if that happened in the states. Special teams would have more of an emphasis than it should have.

No. The closest thing to a punt you can do for points is a dropkick, and that doesn't happen very often. A dropkick isn't a punt because it has to hit the ground first.

no. there is a point after kick for 1 point.
but you have to score a touchdown first (for 6 points)
Punting is never to score just to try and give your opponent bad field position

Even if you could, WHY?

A field goal is more accurate, you'd have a better chance of scoring...
