this is from a paper,,

recall that the fire in florida burnedm150,000 acres:

(a)1 how long it would take you to walk & drive around the perimeter of the area?

(b) how many square miles did the fire destroyed?

(c) if the area destroyed by the fire was approximately circular, what would be the raduis, in miles of the circle? what would be the circumfrence of the circle?

a.2 if the area burned by the florida wildfires was shaped as the figure shown below, label the dimensions and give the area represented byt he composite figuare.

thanks for reading,,and whoever gives me the anser or hoe to do it step by step gets the ten pointer,,,thank you so much everyone!!

First note that 1 acres = 4840 sq yd = 0.0015625 sq mi

So 150,000 acres = 234.375 sq mi

Assume the fire is circular - as the distance would vary depending on the shape, then that would mean:

i) 234.375 = πr^2;

so r = sqrt(234.375/π) = 8.64 mi

ii) circumference = 2πr = 54.27 mi

a) So assume you do a fast walk at 4mph, and drive at 55 mph (you can change these if you like):

Time to walk around perimeter= 54.27/4 = 13.57 hrs ≈ 13 hrs 34 mins

Time to drive = 54.27/55 ≈ 1 hr

By the way "≈" means "approximately"

b) From above, 234.375 sq mi.

c) Again, from above, radius = 8.64 mi and circumference = 54.27 mi

I cannot answer a.2 as well I do not have the "figure shown below"

(a) You need the shape and dimensions of the burn, and the walking and driving rates in order to answer this part.

(b) 640 acres = 1 mi^2
(150,000 acres)(1mi^2/640 acres) = 234.375 mi^2

(c) If the area were circular,
A = πr^2
r = √A/π
r = √234.375/π = 8.6374 miles
C = 2πr
C = 2π8.6374 = 54.27 miles

a.2 This part also cannot be answered since there is no shape shown.

a. you need the speed first. does the sheet give it to you? if so, time = distance/speed.
b. 234.38 miles squared. go to http://www.easysurf.cc/cnver5.htm#acr6 for an online conversion calculator from acres to miles squared or do 150,000 / 640 = 234.38 miles squared
c. area of this circile is 234.38miles. area of a circle is pi * r squared. so 234.38=3.14r^2. divide by 3.14 to get r^2 = 74.64. take the square of each side to get r=8.63 miles. circumfence is 2pi*radius. so 8.63*2*3.14=54.19 miles.
a.2 i don't see any figure so i can't help you.
hope this helps.
