On the wooden part. When you are standing on your skates, it should come up to the bottom of your nose, or wherever you are comfortable with it, ex. defensemen usually use a longer stick than forwards do. If you don't know what you are doing, take it to the pro shop at your rink.

It depends on how long or short you like it like cayle said defensemen prefer a long stick for poke checks and heavy shots from the point where fast skilled forwards like it short to menuever better me I am a wing and like it long since I play a defensive style a general rule has allway been on skates it should be between your chin and your nose but there is no rule on it if you dont want to put your skates on just get on your tip toes its just about the same

You have to find the right length that is comfortable for you. I used to used a Canadien 7007 that I didn't have to cut. Most people on average cut about eyebrow level, that will put it at about the nose on skates. But as I said everyone is different. Practice holding the stick at different points until you get a feel for the right length for you.

Adam Oates used to cut his blade down to get a different feel for the puck. It looked crazy, but it worked for him.

Most stickhandling forwards prefer to cut their sticks short. Guy Lafleur and Gil Perreault both had sticks that came to their clavicles in street shoes.

Defensemen, especially stay-at-home D, prefer longer sticks...probably cut to their nose in street shoes.

Shooters are in the middle but tending more toward the longer.

I don't, I just save myself the trouble (well, part of it is that I use the longest stick I can find anyway, but there was a time I didn't) and bought a stick that was the right length.

It depends if you are palyign street hockey or ice hockey. For ice hockey it should be at your nose on skates and for street hockey it should be at your chin in sneakers
