hold the play button, flip the hold switch

Press and hold the play/pause button until it turns off, then flip the HOLD switch on top. This prevents it from accidently turning on, and I have been told (but have no confirmation) that only after the switch is flipped does it truly turn off.

You need to do three things.
1. Turn off Caps Lock on your computer.
2. Hold down âº×° on your iPod.
3. Push Hold to the right, you should see red.

If you hold the play/pause button it doesn't seem like it would use up a lot of battery power. If you hate recharging it, check out the outlet recharger at apple.com, but it's overpriced--$30

As far as I know the only way to turn it off is by holding the play/pause button till it turns off.

Just push and hold the play/pause. It might turn on if you touch the wheele. If you don't want it to turn on, push it to hold.
