depneds on your definition of a superpower. They already are a economic superpower. As far as military..never. Their constitution allows a military for self defense only. They can't spend more than 1% of their budget on the military. We provide most of their deterent.

No because they aren't allowed to have armed forces, and to become a superpower you must be very rich, have lots of military and be economically influential (to put it in layman's terms). They are wealthy and have some influence with smaller countries, but not near enough. There will never be another one more influential than the US and maybe China in the future, but thats unlikely because we wont let them.

They will not be the next superpower for several reasons. First, mainly because of China. Secondly, their lack of natural resources makes it very vulnerable to outside influences.

No one. They keep smugly pointing out that their Constitution (which MacArthur pretty much wrote) doesn't allow them to have armed forces, so we need to do it.
