Most swim teams order sizing kits. if you were there when they got it or they aren't ordering them, find someone close to your size and ask them what size they got. you need to look at the torso length more than the stomach size. If you do get a sizing kit, you should be able to pull the straps up to your ears. no more and no less. to much means its too big and to little means to small... but if you in btwn, go with the smaller.. it'll stretch out.

Swim suit sizes are a little screwy. If you go to this link:

http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/4887.htm

it will take you to a product page for my favorite discount swim product retailer. Just below the blue box where you order on the right, there's a link to sizing charts (I can't copy the charts because it's a Java link).

This is exactly what you need, I think, because you can select the brand of suit your team is ordering, and then it will give you a measurement chart (for your chest/waist/hips) and then tell you which size you should get.

A quick tip from my own experience--if the suit they're getting is nylon/Lycra, lean toward the smaller size, because these suits stretch out fairly quickly. It'll be a little tight for like three weeks, and then will fit fine. If, however, they're getting polyester suits or fancy competition paper suits, don't do this--the suits will be too tight.

One other tip--if you're going to be swimming lots of laps, go for a suit like the one in the link above--with narrow shoulder straps rather than wide ones. This cuts down on a lot of the chafing you get on your neck with wide straps, which makes marks that look like hickeys!

i just got into swimming too, this past high school season.

they were discussing sizes to order one day at the end of practice, and the converstation got to me, because the girl had everyone else's size, and i didn't know...so this other girl was like "well...i'm a size 30", and that was that.

i fit a size 30...but my measurements say i'm a 28.

check the sizing chart in the source below for regular "female sizing". i would do your over chest measurements in inches (with at the most a lightly padded bra underneath a THIN tee shirt on...no thick padded bras and sweatshirts to throw your measure ments off), check the chart for your size, and you should probably go a size up.

don't be surprised if it's really, really tight. it's supposed to be. some swimmers get smaller sizes...because it helps with hydrodynamics or something, but i don't suggest that for you, because you don't wanna risk ripping a swim suit.

think of it like underwear... Most or some go by bra size, but theres always the small, med, large, x.large also.. You really have to try it on.. Also remember if its too loose while dry, it will fall off you in water.. You need a bit of resistance while its dry, cause once it gets wet, it stretches easier and you dont want your family jewels to fall out while swimming.. lol

Well just make it easy and go to a sport store that has swim suits and just try them on and see which size fits you best...for me I'm 5'7" and I wear a 30 when I race and a 32 when I practice...that should be a starting point. hope that helps.
