we need to internalize the external cost. it will also help save the environment. keeping in mind we are apart of the environment so it saves us in the long run. though it would take a while to show a positive impact.

Because the "costs" keep going up. You think it is bad now, it is going to get worse since the Dumocrats are taking over. They are going to add taxes to save the enviroment and taxes to pay for giveaways. What happens then is businesses have to pay more taxes just to do business, they pay more for fuel, and also they will pay more for minimum wages and they will have no choice but to pass those costs on to you and me in higher prices. By 2008 people will want the Republicans back to get the mess straightened out.

things aren't over priced, we just think that because we want more than we can afford to buy. consider this: in the USA (and in most first-world countries) we spend about 10-15% of our income on food, perhaps another 30-50% on shelter. in other countries, people spend 30, 50, or even 80% of their income on food. that doesn't leave much for anything else, period.
the price we pay for things goes into a lot of different pockets, all of them connected to people who need to pay their own bills. designers and developers, the marketers, the factory workers, the wholesalers, those who transport the goods, the stockers, the sales people, etc. whose salary do you want to trim to save yourself money?
if you really want something without paying a lot of money, learn how to make it yourself.

Perhaps you are under-valuing everything (philosophical economics).

We allow it to happen by paying the price... if nobody pays, the price comes down (eventually - the 'invisible hand (economic philosophy)).

As the cost of living increases, so do the products / merchandise. Along with this should be wage increases!

I hope it is not an economic question... otherwise you would not have posted here.

Everything else is overpriced because we undervalue human beings.... once human values are rated above material desires, things would never be overpriced and all would be reasonably affordable.
