For instance, would you rather be the type of person who is happy and doesnt care about what life means and just has lots of money and goes partying, buys the nice car, gets the hot mate...and just dies later on. Or would you rather know the secret to existence and understand why we are on earth, but at the expense of being depressed as a result of it?

Wow, so many contradictions in one question I don't know where to start...

First, ignorance can't possibly be happiness. And knowledge doesn't lead to sadness, more often people that are more knowledgeable are happier.

Second, suppose there is no "secret to existence" -- no reason why we're here, we just are. There's no evidence of any kind that there *is* a reason or purpose, so if there isn't one it isn't knowable. That doesn't mean you don't make your own purpose for life -- it just means there isn't some grand "master plan," since we're just evolved animals.

I'd rather be knowledgeable AND happy. Like I am now :) And always striving to learn more...

Peace.

I'd rather know. I don't like the feeling of being ignorant about something. And no one can know when they are going to die so why be sad? Life is what you make it, and knowing what the world is about, the joys and down sides, everything if it means not having money I'd take it.
Better combination is knowledgable and happy!

Knowledgable and sad, because that is how I am now. Once you know, you can never go back. Sadness is my favorite emotion because of it.

***Well I'de rather be knowledgable and happy. Knowledge doesn't lead to depression.***

Whoever said that, its a red, flaming flag that you do not possess such an endowement. The other guy was right- really brilliant people sufffer emotionally.

I want to leave a lasting impact on humanity... otherwise my existance is useless... therefore I would want to be knowledgable so I could be capable of doing great things for the world and humanity. Depression is often seen in brilliant people, and many can learn to cope with it or treat it successfully. Ignorant people are harming the Earth, hurting other people, and destroying civilazations as we speak. They may be happy, but our children's children will thank us for learning as much as we can in this lifetime and applying our knowledge.

I choose knowledgable and sad and here's why.....pain reminds me that I'm alive! It sucks and it wears me down sometimes but I don't want to live a life of shallow feel good moments. I recently found out something horrible about someone I love very much and I asked myself this same question. Would I rather not know? The answer is no. I want to know the truth. It sounds stupid but the Trush SHALL set you free.

First, I would like to know in which state of mind you are in, do you really know about both worlds you are writing about?

I, personally know my own secret of existence and why I am on earth, but my result is happiness not sadness or depression, therefore your theory is wrong.

You don't have to be depressed to be aware of the things that matter in life. I think that's important to realize. Furthermore, ignorance and knowledge are not the only two ways to be. You're not either Paris Hilton or Camus. You don't have to pick one or the other. For some reason, people who are intelligent seem to think it's their lot in life to be unhappy. Seems pretty stupid to me.

I choose both. I do like to stay knowledgeable, but the reality of our world is incredibly depressing. So while i may know the harshness is there, some times its just better to get drunk and forget about it ;)
