hours upon hours of practice
shooting shot after shot after shot
and also focusing on dribbling and moves if you're a guard or post moves if you are a big man
don't forget though that practice is great but there is nothing for player development like games
either pick up games where you can try what you've been practicing agaisnt a real defender or in some kind of league
remember to work hard and that you can be on a team year round
when you're not practicing, somewhere in the world there's someone who is

Ofcourse practice as it has been mentioned on plenty occasions but thats not just it. You also have to learn the fundamentals of basketball and that is something very important. Study the background and history and see if you can get either a personnel coach or try out for a basketball team and be coached. You need to be trained as well as practice and playing organized basketball for leagues and schools will do just that. Good Luck
