It takes away 5 points when you ask a question
when you delete a question it takes away 2 points
when you answer a question you get 2 points

Actually, no. Asking questions add -5 points (takes away 5).
Now, the reason you got a down two points alert is this: a best answer was selected in one of your questions.
Thus: 3+(-5)=-2 or 3-5=-2.

lol, good question. When you ask a question, you lose 5 points. However, if you choose a best answer to your question, you will get 3 points back. (-5+3= -2 ) =P If you choose not to pick a best answer, then you'll get ALL 5 of your points back. Hope this helps =D. (this is a chart from the Yahoo answers FAQ)

Takes away 5 but if you choose a best answer you get 3. So really you just end up loosing 2.

Yahoo takes away 5 points...maybe the make their whole ask and answer question more exciting and competitive? Either way, it shouldn't affect you that much if you answer questions as well.
