Because a lot of people have "issues", & one of the unfortunate ways they have of not dealing with them- is by visiting them on others. The trick IS, NOT to take THEIR problems- personally. Yeah, I know that's hard. But by allowing them to get the better of you- you're becoming a part of the problem. Don't make it "easy" for others to get the better of YOU. A genuinely happy person- can't be discouraged. And that's what YOU can resolve to be...

Some people have been raised by mean people and they learned to be mean thinking it was the way to survive. People who have been mistreated sometimes take the attitude that everyone is out to get them and since they don't trust anyone, they hurt people (thinking if they wait the other person will hurt them). Some were taught by their parents to steal. Some develop a "hard shell" to keep others from hurting them. These are pitiful people...angry, unable to love or accept love.
HOWEVER, when you know someone who is like this you don't have to let them ruin your life. I try very hard to have empathy for people who always see the glass as almost empty but I distance myself from them because I love life and I refuse to let their negativity drag me down. I will help anyone who wants help but while I will get down in the mud to give them a hand up, I will not stay in the mud and wallow if they don't want a happier life. I surround myself with positive people; loving people; people who have made the choice to be happy, loving people. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped.

Good question. I know what you mean. I ask myself that question everyday. If you have any honest friends(not including your family cuz they'll always say nice things) Ask and honest friend what they think of you and if its a positive response, then believe me all the mean people are just jelous and want what you have or are too proud to act appreciative. Otherwise, i know what you mean, i'm still looking for an answer. lol

Because some people ( not all people ) only think of themselves!
They place more importance on themselves rather than think of the next person & how they are hurting them

Think of it in terms of evolution. There's a nice caveman and a mean caveman, and not much food (for example). The mean caveman takes all of the food for himself, so the nice caveman dies of starvation.
The mean caveman then finds a mate so his 'mean genes' get passed on, but the nice caveman's 'nice genes' don't.
