how do you know when jeans are supposed to be close fitting or when they're just too tight?

When you try on jeans at the store, you should always walk in them a little, sit, stand, etc. When you sit, if you find that you're falling out of them, or if they're too tight between your legs, then they're too small. If you have to struggle to close them, put them on or if you have trouble walking, then you will need the next biggest size.

If the only way you can get them on is to lay flat on the bed, hook the end of a wire hanger through the hole in the zipper tab, hold your breath, and then pull with all your might to zip them up THEN they might be too tight.
If you go to the doctor to ask about the blue marks on the side of your legs and he says they are pressure bruises from the seam of your jeans THEN they might be too tight.
I've known people in both of these situations.

if you take longer than 5 minutes putting them on, they are probably too tight. I
If you are tying to impress a guy with your tight jeans then pick jeans that flatter you that you can put on quickly and ....in turn...he will appreciate the fact that you can take them off...just as quickly :)

Apparently.. I have a funny story/answer: Sometimes it's so hard to take of, I can't go to the bathroom so I can't take it off, so I just hold everything in until i can waste some time.
Answer: Well, until you don't have trouble taking it off/comfterble

When you go to sit and they dont give and its actually painful to sit, if they are stretchy jeans then they will give and wont hurt you!

They are definitely too tight when you pass gas and it blows your shoe off.
