I am looking at buying the following computer:

"Enclosed are the prices for the system as requested. I do not have a card
reader with firewire built-in - you have to get a case with front firewire.
Please note that the below system does not include windows".

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz $465
Asus P5B-E motherboard $199
Mushkin 2GB (2x1G) DDR2 667 RAM $348
Seagate 320GB SATA HDD 16MB $143
LG 18X DVDRW $50
Asus Geforce 7600GS 512MB PCIE $199
Standard ATX Case & PSU with FIREWIRE $100
Internal Multi Card Reader $20
Logitech X-230 2.1 speakers $65
LG L1952T 19" DVI/8ms LCD $320
Logitech MX3200 Keyboard & Mouse $128
Installation & Testing $30
TOTAL (cash price, credit +2%) $2067

The computer is mainly used for internet, email, photo viewing and the odd computer games such as Law and Order, CSI and soccer management games.

Do you think the computer is suitable and all components consistent and well matched? Please provide your honest feedback and any suggestions.

Excellent unit !

You may, however, want to consider the LG L204WT. Awesome specs & reviews.(sells here in Canada for $350).
The stand is not so great but that is replacable (I use a wall mount)

Widescreen is the way to go ... better for movies, better for apps with lots of toolbars, better for viewing 2 full docs side by side & better for the new sidebar in Windows Vista....all around better usage of screen real estate.

At over $2000 (tooooo much ! especially with no Windows), you can save money & get a better unit (with Vista included) from HP. Check out the high end HP Media Center PCs before you buy this (you can always upgrade the video card) example :

They have awesome support & can do much more than the unit you describe. Media Center features in XP & Vista are phenominal.

You would have a very good system which would be way better than what you need for what you say you do. You could save a few bucks, but really...get the best you can for the dollars you can afford!! you never know what is going to come up where you WILL need everything listed... happens all the time. People buy a system and then say " gee I wish I got that bit extra"
If you start overclocking etc then any money you save on lesser components will be eaten up on cooling systems, heatsinks, etc to compensate.

You don't need an E6600. Get an E6300 and over clock it to 2.4GHz (Which is ease those can go to 4GHz+ on high-end cooling) A 7600GS w/ 512MB is overkill for those games. Get one with 256MB. You don't need 2GB of RAM. 1GB is the best choice. With thst said you might be able to save 250-500 dollars off your PC.
