I put it in drive, and it will move forward slowly, but it won't respond when I press on the accelerator. It does this for a few seconds before it finally responds. It also happens in reverse. Any ideas? How much do you think it will cost to fix?

Might just be low on transmission fluid or it could be real serious. It could be the bands are burnt, or the clutch pack is bad but, I would check the fluid first and maybe even have it flushed and the filters cleaned.

Is it really cold where you are at? Does this happen even after the car is warmed up and you have driven a couple miles? Automatic transmissions have a lot of moving parts and it could be any number of things. Start by making sure the fluid is at the proper level. If thats ok and its not extremely cold where you live, take it to a shop because I need a lot more info to even start diagnosing the problem.

Check and replace following....fuel filter, Oxygen sensor,
MAP sensor, throttle position sensor, and catalytic converter.
Process of elimination. If you can remove and replace yourself to save money, you are looking at about $80 for the first item and it will go up to about $400 for the last item depending on who does it and if they are reputable or not.
