Strictly speaking, you pretty much have your thesis! A thesis is a statement that the rest of your paper tries to prove, and since your subject has been assigned, your thesis is that the battle of Gettysburg shares _____ with the Civil War. I don't know what fills in that blank; that's what you were supposed to learn from class and apply. Plus, I'm no history expert.

Once you figure it out, you have your thesis paper. For example (and only example, I don't know if this is even true): Because both share the common element of Southern culture, Gettysburg ties in strongly with the Civil War. Then you'd go on and show that they do share that element, and why that means they're linked.

Good luck on your paper!

The Batlle of Gettysberg and Civil War had impact on the life of the American Settlers ushering them to form the United States.

Tips; a thesis statement to guide you answering smoothly must be answerable by Yes or No (or in Affirmative or Neaive) Which side you vent to elaborate will depend on you and can defend it with flying colors. good luck. Or purchase a book entitled, Lively Art of Writing by Lucille Payne.
