Like it or not, a huge chunk of the tax on cigarettes is used to build new roads and to keep existing roads in good condition. When no one smokes anymore, where will that money come from?

And, for those people who despise smoking and all it stands for, are you willing to "keep it real" by not using any roads in your state?

I just quit smoking (as in 4 days ago) and I know exactly what you mean. The taxes on cigarettes are so high and these do-gooder anti-smoking people don't ever stop to realise just how it will impact their hip pocket if everyone quits. I enjoyed smoking but for health reasons (and my husband's health) I had to quit (unfortunately). Furthermore, it used to really piss me off how smokers are ostracised when tobacco is a LEGAL drug and drugs such as crack, smack, speed and ice are not yet users of these drugs get tears and flowers and vows sympathy and public funding and free needles and they're far more dangerous to the community than smokers......And tobacco is supposedly more addictive than any other drug anyway, so would smokers need more encouragement?

very simple, build a road out of a material that you dont have to maintain ever. like asphalt or concrete or epoxy mixed with gravel.or something else thats cheap and abundant. why build a road out of tar, when it gets soft in the heat and can crack and get worn away in the winter from trucks scraping it and deicing it. only reason I see people building roads out of tar is it keeps people working to fix it. so people have jobs.those people can fix something else and still get paid.

Well they tax alcohol rather heavily as well.

If we didn't have any vices there wouldn't be any tax money.

Maybe a tea tax?

I don't smoke, but I do believe everyone should be free to abuse their bodies in any way they see fit ( I drink, if you can't tell).
