what source of errors are compensated by using internal standard? and difficulties arise in using an internal standard method of quantitation for essential oil

1) injection technique - didn't get it all into the chamber/sample not right size
2) chamber not warmed up - did not volatilize sample entirely & immediately
3) leaky septum
4) gas tank is running down & flow is slower/weaker than it should be
5) (more for the old bead packed columns than the newer hollow ones) the column is soaking up some of your sample

I can only answer the first part of your question.
