Grehound is an economical way to travel, and if you are young and adventuresome, it can be a lot of fun. But my advice is: It is a LOT of riding on a bus across country. Any trip that takes more than 24 hours will give you a stiff posterior. If you can get a ticket that allows you to get off for a day, rest up and visit a city, and catch the bus the next day, that is best. That will enlarge the distance you can travel and still enjoy yourself You will need the rest between legs of the trip.
Bus terminals are not always in the best parts of cities and towns, so bear that in mind in picking a place to visit. Connections to a city with some public transit will help in getting around the tourist spots.

From Philadelphia, you could reach cities that you have never visited along the Atlantic seaboard. Miami is 1,250 miles. That it probably as far as you might want to ride--It requires changing buses in Richmond, or Richmond and Orlando (depending on which bus you take) That is also almost 2 days. You could stop in any intermediate city on the route-- Washington, DC, Raleigh, Savannah, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, etc.

Going North, you could go as far as Montreal, Quebec, Canada. That is about 500 miles, and takes almost a day, changing buses in New York City.

Heading West, you could reach as far as Chicago in a day. That is transferring in Pittsburgh. It is a full day, and you go through Pittsburgh, Akron, Cleveland, Toledo and South Bend, Ind.

If you want to see the Western United States, remember the recent snowstorm that closed the freeways and airports in Denver It really depends on the time of the year you are planning to travel. Travel in winter is different than travel in spring and summer . Remember: distances are a lot longer on a cross-country ride west of Chicago, St Louis and Memphis. Each of those cities makes a reasonable place to break up your journey for a day or two.

Whatever you decide, have a great time !

Depends on what you want to see..... Virginia Beach is nice, so is Daytona Beach. You could check out New York City or Chicago. Vegas is too commercial for me but you might like it. Texas might be nice this time of year but I would stay out of the Denver area unless you are really missing snow.
All else fails........
You could take out a map and throw a dart - where ever it lands is your destination. Happy travels.
