like a person i know backs up with it real fast and slams it into overdrive with out stopping and then goes on driving i know that aint good while other people tell me it dont hurt it but i stop just to be safe. and another person i was riding with was driving my suburban and the train sat there and blocked the road for like 30 minutes and they let it sit in gear the whole time and they wouldnt let me put it in neutral or park.

I presume you are talking about the time sitting at stoplights. The tranny is built for that. Now if you are talking about parking it and letting it run and run while in drive, that is just plain silly. There are some people that will start the car on a cold morning, and let it warm up in gear, with the wheel chocked, on the theory the transmission warms up better. I live in a cold climate, but I have never bothered to try that.

i own a repair shop, and it wont exactly hurt it,,but its not good for it either if you have to set at an idle for that long of a time,,you need to put it in park,,i don't recommend you set a lot with it in gear ,it also may cause the engine to heat up slightly,,good luck i hope this help,s.

I would seriously look into having your fluid and filter changed.

no, doesn't hurt it...but tell your friend to STOP driving backwards and slamming it into gear w/out stopping! that is horrible for it!
