In the days of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, America and several other countries empose a grain embargo on the Soviet Union. This causes lots of problems for Russia and they cant talk the US out of it.

So as the situation in Russia becomes dangerous (riots and food shortages) a military group decides to act.

A lone colonel in Alaska is new on the job and is unaware of what is about to happen.

A crack soviet unit lands in Alaska, and when a national guard unit goes missing, the colonel soon finds this unit moving across the land.

He leads a investigation into what is going on, as Washington and Moscow fued over the grain embargo.

It comes down to a showdown at a oil pumping station, (the alaskan pipe line), where a under manned, under armed (severely low ammo) group of soldiers must hold off the enemy who are clearly inteneded to destroy part of the pipeline and disrupt our oil.

As tensions rise, A russian leader, unaware of the plan from the beggining must try to preserve peace while under presure from his commanders must show muscle.

When he is killed, the US and Russia face nuclear war.

Its a great movie made for tv in 1982 or so.
