I have a 2000 Plymouth Neon and it has 97,000 miles on it. I recently got a minor tune up but now my check engine light is on and my car acts as if it wants to cut off when I stop at a stop light or for a short period of time. It kicks off in short spurts and then slows down. What is wrong wit my baby?

Probably the engine dying. Maybe the transmission dying. Your lucky your wheel hasn't fallen off or something horrible like that! All the Chrysler/ dodge products my mom has ever bought have failed early in their life.

Its really tough to diagnose the problem with out more info. but I would guess maybe a vaccum leak. Make sure all of the vaccum hoses are hooked up. Also depending on what a minor tune up consists of, the PCM (powertrain control module) could be trying to compensate for normal wear (like varnish in the throttle body, or worn spark plugs) if some of the settings weren't reset after the tune up. If you dont know much about fixing cars I would take it back to the shop.

Take it back to the shop where you got a tune-up...sometimes it could be as simple as someone being careless and forgetting to put something back on. example:oil cap...i have heard of people forgetting to put this back on and oil shooting all over the engine bay due to forgetting to put this simple part back on after an oil change. i'm not saying that this might be the case but it never hurts to look into the simple things..

well it could be a cupple things the plugs are gaped wrong or a plug as for the code i am just guessing not knowing what it is but i am going to say its a misfire code so it may be a bad coil in it or if you did the plugs alone then the wires are bad it could be wrong plugs cause the newer cars take a platium plug butjust keep an eye on your head and gasket on them they are known for it and the dhs cluster to go bad

If it is worse shape after the tune up, take it back. There are too many "mechaniks" out there that don't know how to do a tune up. They should have scanned your codes as part of the tune up.

Take it back to teh shop you had the tune up done at, if you didn't have it done at a shop, take it to one and have them diagnose the problem. you can take it to a parts store and have them pull a code but the code is useless unless you know how to diagnose it.

Have the code read for free at Autozone. It will tell you what is causing the light to come on.

Go to your loacal auto store and they can read your computer and tell you the OBD codes. It could be anything, sensors mostly. They will be able to tell you exactly what it is.

You will not hurt anything as long as you hook it up correctly. Just make sure you clean the connectors before you install and get everything tight.
