I'm making a powerpoint for my presentation on cliques...popular vs. unpopular. So I wanted to include personal qoutes and opinions. If you'd give some insight...I'd appreciate it. I'm mainly looking for personal answers to the question...why do we judge people based on appearances.

there was just a show on Oprah this week about class status and why we continually make judgements. The main thing I got from the program is about how people like to continually place themselves on the social ladder, and discern who is above them, and who they are above or who else is below them. I guess this makes them feel secure. Good luck with your powerpoint, sounds like a cool and very interesting project. good topic~

Because allot of times looks will tell you what type of person you are dealing with all though it may not always true. It is true enough that people will dress a certain way to fit in with the type of people they hang around. Each sharing similar likes and dislikes. This furthers why people rely on appearances for future friends or partners.

People make a choice about their appearance. If they choose an appearance that is radically different from the appearance of people of their gender living in their culture, then they are making a statement. We judge people by what they say about themselves and their appearance statement is even more valid than the Supreme Court calling flag burning speech.

I would say it's because visual contact is typically the first contact made with another person. Unless I've already talked to the person before (via phone, email, etc) I actually meet them how else could I formulate an initial opinion?

So I think the issue would then become is it fair to judge based on appearnace.

because the first thing that happens when we meat someone is we notice there appearance
for good or bad you are judged by others on your appearance.

are you over or under weight
how you dress
what your hair is like
do you look groomed or sloppy
do you have manners or are you clueless on etiquette
how you walk
smile
and worse of all what impression you make in that moment last forever in the minds of most people.

that also happens when you go for a job interview, they look At all thoughts things and more and have judged your qualifications by your appearance in that moment

Not all people judge others based on apperances. But it shows who you are. The way you talk and what body language do you use and type of clothing you wear are part of your character. Your health and the way you deal with others can be one way to express your identity and background. It is the only seen thing on person that reflects who you are. It is important when you go to job interview. It is one way to market yourself in jobs interview and in a socila life as well. It is your mirror that reflect who you are.
