I am getting a job as a dj at a radio station I need to know this...

It just means that he broadcasting has suddenly stopped for some techincal reason. Think if the TV went blank for 20 seconds. Any more than 15 has to be reported to the Fed. Communications Commision. It is a technical glitch. Now if you youngsters have turned it into a new slang word for something, I don't know about that. By the way, did you knoe they cannot commercial you any more ofen than 7 minutes? With this knowledge and a remote, you can "commercial fight" a greedy station.

Dead air means no sound at all is being sent. This definitely is a no-no for radio.

There is no music or talk bring broadcast, hence the phrase "dead air".
