You can touch them but not too much as they are fragile. Don't hold them a lot for the first couple of days. But check to see if they are warm, alive and huddled together. If there are any dead ones, YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THEM! The mother might kill the others if there is a dead one in the nest. Make sure you check with the mommy bunny before you touch them. Pet her first. Also pay a lot of attention to the mommy (hold her a lot). You don't want her to get jealous. DON'T touch them if she lunges at your hand. Rabbits will kill their babies if they feel threatened. Make sure the mommy has enough food and water and some treats. She needs the energy to feed them. And if she doesn't, she might eat the babies.Don't let daddy bunny near the babies until their eyes are opened. You can also play with them during this time! It is also best if you hold them a lot after those couple of days, so they are used to people!

I used to breed rabbits for showing, and to be honest, it really depends on the mother rabbit. Some mothers don't mind if you pick up their little ones right after they are born. However some might kill their babies if anyone touches them after they are born. I would highly recommend that you wait until the bunnies are at least two weeks old before you handle them. However, do keep an a close eye on them during this two week period in case for some reason a baby dies. If this happens, remove the dead bunny and then try to clean out the birthing hutch as soon as possible. You really don't want whatever killed the little bunny to spread to the other bunnies.
Good luck with your litter of bunnies, and have fun with them when they are old enough to handle.

Absolutely. I and many other rabbit rasiers handle baby bunnies from day one. The minute we discover they have been born, we do a head count and remove dead babies from the nest.

However, not all momma rabbits are going to be happy with you doing this, so you really MUST have a strong bond with Momma Bun and she must trust you and that you are not hurting her babies. She may get nervous or jumpy if you remove the nest box to do this, so do it quickly and get it back to her. Pet her first, comfort her, give her a treat, let her out of the cage to romp...something that will distract her while you check babies.

Some Mommas will not care at all, especially the more experienced ones. First time moms you will want to be extra careful with/around. Don't handle them if you think she is so threatened by you that she will abandon them or stomp them, which is only in her mind, for their own safety: too kill them her way before the predator "eats" them.

Momma Rabbit does not usually mean to harm her babies, unless she feels it is best to protect them from a predator.

you should not touch them w/your hands at all..the mother is known to reject them after and theyre fragile anyway so who knows what could happen.
however you can hold them but w/a blanket or something underneath..in fact sometimes you have to if they climb out of the nesting box and are wandering around the room. thats what i had to do when i found babies moving around my bedroom. but you really shouldnt fool w/them or the mother at all because my bunnys last litter died...apparently because i was playing/fooling with the mother a little too much and thought she wasnt feeding them so gave them milk from an eyedropper (bad move)
but this litter turned out fine.. have them at my 4-H leaders house and theyre growing, now theyre almost old enough to be played with. they left the mother and babies alone, only came in to feed them.

bottom line: wait until a little after they grow fur

I've heard you can start after birth and that you should wait a while. I would be cautious and at least wait a day if you're uncertain. Have you checked any rabbit message boards?

IF the mother is tame, it'll be okay to do, as with most other rodents. Be gentle though, and don't go toting them around with you. Just let them get used to human smell and touch.
