It is for my school's (College) Early Childhood Association. It will display the name of the organization, meeting dates and times, and other information. I want it to be attractive. I need a color scheme and a theme that is not holiday related, seasonal, or religious.

I used to design computer systems - which also means computer screens and reports. The biggest mistake people make is they use too much stuff - and then nothing stands out.

For instance, use the largest size letters for the heading (name of the organization). A smaller size for the group headings (MEETINGS, CLASSES, SPECIAL EVENTS). And the smallest size, for the details in those headings.

Do not use different type of fonts, or character formats.

Do not use too many colors. 2 or 3 should be the max. You also want something that is not too bright or fluorescent. I personally like a medium blue (helps to make black ink stand out)..

As for a theme - maybe something showing little kids reaching up or walking towards older kids (non-early childhood). Silhouettes of the kids maybe so no comments about race or ethnic backgrounds

Many education stores have beautiful borders and neat cutouts for bulletin boards. They also have large fadeless paper perfect for bulletin boards. (Regular construction paper will fade and become quite ugly, especially in a sunny hallway.) Some stotres will also have a tool called an Ellison cutter available for you to use. This lets you cut out letters and shapes that are uniform and regular. If you don't have an education store nearby, you can always buy packs of letters. Even better, find out if someone you know works in a school and could let you use your own paper to cut out shapes with their Ellison cutter.

Use primary colors. Put up photos from past social events to encourage people to join and be active. Contact people in the community to let them know you'll put part-time job postings on the board if they want (babysitting, tutoring, etc.) If the ECA has an office, you should put up the dates and times that the office is open. Whatever you do, make sure the info is accurate and up-to-date.
