I don't think women deserved to get off the Titanic first than men. Children should have been sent first ( both boys and girls ), then young men and women, then older men and women, and so forth.
And women say they were oppressed..... 'priviledged' would be a better term......

"Women and children first" .... because children need their moms.
No seriously, it's a part of what's called "chivalry" The nice things men used to do for women... society considered (and some still do) women more gentle and timid then men and therefore need a hand in doing things. Which would include getting off of the ship first.

The saying is women and children first so children were included. You weren't considered a gentlemann if you knocked a woman out of line on a lifeboat. A real man went down with the ship or so they say. Hey I figure us getting on the lifeboat first was just a small favor for all the crap we had to put up with. I love men who in modern age act like women getting a few rights means we are somehow trampling them down. Oh yes, you have been the poor, abused sex over the years.

ladies first. they thought men were braver and should sacrifice by letting the women off first. women may have been priveleged in some ways, but only because they were considered weak and needed to be protected. so women were oppressed by men's idea of their own superiority over women. women weren't given as many rights or choices in life because of this.

You can't leave children unattended in a life boat, and it would be morally wrong to let men in while children drown on board the ship. Oh, and men don't have a tit to feed babies with. "Women and children first!"

it was a more civilized time back then. the cultural demanded that be the way. god knows how it would go with emanem and his posse today. probably throw the women and children off then they would take the boats for themselves. it was a different world back then. like the difference between here and on mars.

actually it was wealthy people first or people in the first class suites, a lot of things work that way in a lot of places around the world.

they send the women and children ,they didn't want all the children without both parents ,its always been done this way.

because the reasoning was women could reproduce, to make up for the deaths, and also that they were more "fragile" and men were strong and didn't need to live.
