it's a long story...hope you can help :)
my dad had some work to do in egypt a few years ago, so me and all my family had to go with him, I spent a year to learn the language and decided to enroll in an Egyptian school instead of american so that I could get to know the country better bla bla bla, after spending a year in an Egyptian school (10th grade)I realize that I had made a BIG mistake, and because of the weird rules I couldn't transfer to an American school, the books, being written in another language were so hard for me, somehow I managed to graduate h.s with a GPA of 70%, now I'm planning to apply for college in the US next year, so I took the SAT and had a score of 1400 out of 2400....how terrible ...I know, that's because I didn't study at an American school :). everybody is telling me that I won't get accepted in college (I want to major in medical illustration and take medicine prereqs courses) so now I'm thinking about going back to h.s in the US, I'll add details ....

so now I'm thinking about going back to h.s in the US, or at least to 11th grade and get a good GPA, but everyone is telling me to apply to a commuity college instead, which one do you think is better going back to H.S or go to a community college?, I'm thinking community college would be a bad mark in my profile if I would apply to medical school after college (that's my dream and I'm really ready to work hard for it) so what do you advise me to do......I know it's a long story and I really appreciate your help....thanks in advance!

I would go to the community college. You will be getting your GPA up and acheiving the basics that is needed to go to a better 4 year college. It is a lot cheaper to go to a community college also as they only charge like $20 a unit.
Also when you finish with your basics (english, math, and stuff) at the community college, and you have some other experiences like on the honors group or outside activities that will help you get in to a better college, because they will see that you can keep your studies up and also be able to accomplish other things at the same time.
You can also take some computer courses at the community colleges that will give you a great head start on the major.
I forgot to add this. You had the courage to go to a foreign high school and actually graduate. Some colleges will look at that more than the SAT as a qualifing factor.
I dropped out of HS and joined the Navy. I got my ged and then started going to college whenever I could. After many years and alot of work, I got my PHD and I didn't have that great of a score on my SAT. Thank god the Navy had school that took everybody.
Good luck

Community College is very acceptable way to rack up some college credits without spending the extra money at a 4 year college. Community College-- Get a good guidance councilor, know the college you want to enroll in for your 4 year, and make sure you satisfy all the requirements to transfer in as a 3rd yr student!

My brother did this prior to going to CalTechPolly.
He was from out of State and while waiting the 6 month period to establish perm. residence, he went to Community College. He got a lot of credits out of the way, and didn't have to pay the 4 yr college price for the first 2 yrs. of college.

Don't go back to High School! That's silly-- Community College offers free tutoring, anything you need.
Just research the State prior to going.

Go for it, follow your dreams, and stop putting yourself down!
Hey, if you could learn Egyption, you are really smart!

When you look back on this in 10 yrs, you will have no regrets!
you have great knowledge.
AND you can retake your SAT!!!

Depending on how you present the Egypt experience, it should not hurt you - long-term.

Go ahead and go to another high school in the US. Promising athletes do that all the time so they can raise their grades to qualify to get into a BIG UNIVERSITY's to play sports.

Then when you apply for college, mention it somewhat as:
While some could view taking classes in Egyptian schools as an error, it has provided with a far better understanding of ethic diversity that I would not have learned.

Oops - while I was writing the top of this - you added the comments about community college. that is an even better approach. Go to the community college - that will not look bad against you - and IN SOME STATES - the community colleges have deals with the universities in that state to transfer all classes.

My daughter went to John Tyler Community College in Richmond, VA and took pre-med classes. Then transferred all of her classes to James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA for her final 2 years. Cut her costs of going to college by staying home the 1st 2 years.

I would go to a community college and get prerequisites out of the way. Research the college you want to go to and make sure that the credits from the community college will transfer. Then take the prereqs you need and build up your GPA. Then apply to the med school you want. At least that's what I would do.

Now a days community colleges are not that bad. And no matter what your future degree will be you are going to have to take the required basic classes in the first year ad why not do them for cheaper and possibly closer to home(if not close some community colleges have some sort of dorms). And with these out of they way you can transfer to college or university of chose and be on you way. For questions like these the best place I have found is,
http://www.mycollegeguide.org
and then from there go to, ASK the GURU and he will answer back with the highest intelligences what he think for you situation you should do. Have a great day!

To tell you the truth...community colleges are the way to go. Whoever told you that having a community college on your application would be a downfall was wrong. Universities realize that going to a community college is both more economical and often more convenient for the student. Sometimes they simply do not have the money or the desire to stay on campus at a university as a freshmen. I say go with the community college. Universities support them 100% and as long as you make sure all your credits will transfer to the university you chose to attend you will be fine.

A 1400 really is not that bad... I mean sure its not a Harvard University score but it's a score to say your decently intelligent.
Sure you made a mistake but that's not saying you can't go into US colleges and universities! The medical field is in need of workers constantly and I really don't know much about medical illustration but I'm sure it needs workers. Just go back to school in the US work for what you would like to and try hard. Realistically that's all you can do at this point. Good-Luck!

frankly, I'm a highschool student myself and I KNOW the prerequisites required to attend university. If you plan to attend graduate school and take medical courses, a 1400 is honestly not at par. My first SAT score was 1990 and compared to my peers, who are mostly national scholars, it was TERRIBLE! What you need right now is brutal honesty. If your goal was a less intense major, your grades are adequate. If you are reluctant to return to the horrors of high school, raise your SAT scores by taking a prep course or reading prep manuals or suscribe to websites that offer free online help. Kaplan has a free online database of questions. Also, SAT II scores and community service and awards and such are also factored in. Hope it helps, my info should be fairly accurate as my community of life is based on what is needed to attend the best universities and also take medical related courses.

A community college would probably be your best bet right now. You can take some remedial classes there to strenghten any areas that you are weak in and you can get a good GPA, which will have more impact than high school scores.
