I have a 1992 Toyota Tercel, I have just replaced an engine that had a cracked block with another engine. My problem is that when it turns over I have Antifreeze spilling oout of my Exhaust Manifold. I do not mean onto, I mean coming out of the manifold itself. Can anyone help me out on this. It is possible I have mixed some hoses up, I was pretty meticulous with labeling and putting things right back where they were, but I am up for any suggestions. Thanx.

I am using the head that came on the engine. I still have my old engine, so I can still use parts off of that.

Sounds like your head gasket is bad or the cylinder head is cracked. If you reused tour cylinder head it may be bad if it came off the cracked block.

It is possible that the engine you bought/ replaced might have a small crack in the manifold that's allowing this to happen . Check all the hoses again and it is necessary to mention here that if the coolant is leaking in the manifold to check it u drive u r car and if it gives thick fog from the tail pipe then it defenetly means the coolant is leaking in to the exhaust manifold and the block head needs to be checked.

i mechanic for a living,,and own a shop, and its possible you could have a hose crossed up on it,,and its also possible that the engine you bought might have a small crack in the manifold that's allowing this to happen,,if you didn't use any of the old engine parts ,id say you bought an engine that has either busted from cold,or has been run hot before,,id go over all the hoses again,,but i don't think its going to be a hose on it,,i hope it is though,,but check everything real good ,its for sure its not going to run like this,,good luck hope this help,s.

I concur with R1volta. sometimes cracks are hard to find in blocks and heads. If the head gasket is good (which you cannot reuse anyway) take the head(s) to a machine shop and have them magnafluxed to make sure they are not cracked and check to make sure they are not warped. One other thing to check, are the bolt holes for the manifold blind or open? if they are open then they go into the water jacket, it is possible that coolant is leaking around bolt threads, try using a sealant on them like super Blue rtv or equivalent. Hope this helps.

I think this may be more serious than mixed up hoses. Cheak the motor oil, if its milky or looks like melted cholcolate ice cream, you got some real problems.

the suitable shouldn't might want to be re-torqued....i have had tacomas with 275,000 miles with both.7l and no head issues...if its been run warm its defiantly the suitable gasket, perhaps check out the prospect of a freeze plug, each so often they crack quite than blow thoroughly out! strong success
