chicken

The egg.
Before the chicken became a chicken, it was something else. It gradually developed until at one point it was defined as a chicken. This meant that a non-chicken (one generation before animal was redefined) gave birth to the first chicken egg. Meaning that the egg came first. This explanation is widely accepted.

egg.
the ovum or female gamete is found in both animals and embryophytes, from primitive organisms to more complex ones. hard shelled eggs in vertebrate animals are found in both reptiles and aves(birds). whether or not aves evolved from reptiles is arguable, but chances are the more primitive ancestor of the chicken also hatched eggs, therefore concluding that the egg came before the chicken.

The egg was first because there were other animals that predate the chicken laying eggs.

well...in MY OPINION...i say the chicken came first. God could've just plotted a chicken on earth and it could've layed an egg. you see, if the egg came first, it wouldn't hatch because there wouldn't be a chicken sittin on it UNLESS THE CHICKEN CAME FIRST. DUH!
