The Book of Genesis begins that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Few believers in the Book have difficulty accomodating current theories of evolution with the biblical narrative, because, taken allegorically the opening lines ring quite true.

I will assume you mean Genesis, the first book of the semitic tradition.

Evolution has ample support from scientific evidence. There is no reasonable doubt.

Genesis is an early attempt to explain the origin of the world, nature, and humankind. It is by itself quite good, considering the time it was written.

The point of conflict comes when fundamentalists say there has been no evolution basing their arguments on a short-sighted interpretation of the book.

Genesis is not accurate and most of its statements lack scientific support, but i would not call it false straightforward, it has some interesting concepts derived from observation and philosophy. It is an spiritual book, when you read it look for the spiritual message, not for scientific facts.

Creationism, on the other hand is a pseudo-scientific hypotesis, proved wrong on countless occassions. Look at it as a primitive explanation, just as valid as Thor's hammer.

Most assume that a day in Genesis is 24 hours. What if it was a million years long? Did God say poof and there was man or did it happen through evolution? The only conflict is how many hours there were in a day.

Genesis? vs evolution? I argue that we really descended from man, Adam and his wife Eve. To clarify is that there are animals under different genus or species. Man falls on highest category because we are thinking mamals. Any those evolutions are only theories which can be rebutted by evidences.

All the books of the Bibe are in conflict in one way or another. Does that make anything false? We live in a world of paradoxes.

Not completely...There is order in the universe. We just can't see it sometimes. We certainly can not see the big picture...yet.
