How would you get a horse road safe? We would like to be able to walk our horses to my frineds house to use their arena casue we dont have one of our own, and also to share farrier visets with them. So how do we make a horse raod safe, just in hand. Its a short distance not very much traffic we would always do it when light out and there is plenty of distance on the side of the road

Ask someone you know and trust to drive around the pasture while you walk your horse along the fence line. Ask the person to do figure eights, donuts lol, spurts of speed.... Anything different. Do this until the horse can walk calmly. Just do a little bit everyday for awhile and with different cars if you can so your horses get used to all types.

Good luck!

Depends on the horses disposition. Is your horse easily spooked or pretty much bomb proof? You know not real concerned when there is a lot of stuff going on around it?
If the later is the case, it probably won't take much other than riding down to the end of your driveway or ? & sit on him a safe distance from the road when you think there will be enough traffic to see how he will react to it. Turn him away from the road & have him stand facing away when a car drives by to see how he will react to a car moving behind him. Do this several times. Bring a parent with you so they will be there to see how the horse reacts & to help you if needed. SAFETY FIRST RIGHT???

Our horses have always been bomb proof. They have been exposed to so much. Parades, rodeo crowds, etc. Even when I was a kid we could always take them out on the roads without any fear they would spook...
Good Luck... Be Careful!!! Don't push him if he gets nervous or won't stand quiet when the vehicles pass then walk away. Move him farther away from the road until he will stand quietly. Then move closer the next day or ?
Keep yourself & the horse safe. Do NOT do this without an adult or another experienced rider with you JUST IN CASE & Remember, don't push. Let the horse set the pace.....

Sack them out with plastic bags and tarps first. I would make sure they were respectful on the ground BEFORE going down the road so really work on ground manners while walking and lunging-making sure they understand to stop and stand still everytime you ask.

make sure there are no rocks, glass, or any sharp objects while you are riding on the road. make sure your horse is ok with moving vehicles & motorcycles & they should be fine!

you can try tying wal-mart bags to the fence for the noise, that's how we trained ours to ride in the parade
